walk the walk

we go back again and again to the places we come from.
stand in the same spot, i’ve been here before.
look at how far we’ve come.
it’s a linear gauge to one’s life path.
to look forward and backward at the same time.
i am still me.
yet look at the worlds i’ve seen in this space between.

“i want to run away from myself” he tells me
{after doing something he knew he shouldn’t}
ouch my heart, i really understand this.
this boy will grow into a man with compassion
“sometimes i want to run away from myself too.”
i say it in all honesty, and he knows this.
it’s surprising how easily we wear each others shoes.
